What is a Mentorship Program?
Mentorship is the influence, guidance, or direction given by a mentor. A mentor is someone who teaches or gives help and advice to a less experienced colleague or program participant to support their professional growth. The key element is that a mentor has experience that a mentee can learn from. A mentoring program is a structured, one-to-one relationship in a work or organizational setting.
Mentoring allows people to learn from one another, providing a path to skill and knowledge transfer through productive conversations and meetings, and providing participants with career development tools and resources to accomplish the goals set out during the program. 1

Mentors
A mentor is expected to guide the mentee in their mentorship experience, to give the relationship a direction in relation to what the mentee is looking for out of the program. Aside from meeting at the CFWF conference, this means giving guidance on goals and professional development opportunities through virtual meetings, reviewing documentation and collaborating with the mentee on their professional development plan.
Mentees
Mentees will be expected to drive their mentorship experience, with support and guidance from their mentor, by having goals in mind, looking for events and other professional development opportunities that align with these goals, and committing to regular meetings with your mentor over the course of the
mentorship. Mentees will complete a professional development plan outlining their goals for the mentorship, and a follow-up report documenting the events, process and what was learned.
