Annual meeting goes virtual
IFAJ 2011 in Guelph/Niagara Falls is going to be so full of exceptional things that CFWF has had to take exceptional measures to squeeze in its 2011 annual meeting and awards banquet.
First, the annual meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 30th at 3:00pm EDT via conference call. The reason for this is that there were very few options within the schedule of the IFAJ Congress to hold a session just for Canadian participants and the CFWF board felt that it was more important to use that space for the awards program presentations (see below).
Being a conference call, the annual meeting will be limited to official business such as the minutes, financial statements, elections and annual reports. We require a minimum of 20 participants (members) from at least 4 of the 6 affiliated associations for quorum so please entice one or two of your colleagues to join us (you can have an AGM party in your office – free beer for anyone who seconds a motion!) The venerable Senate Report (the report, not the senators themselves) will be presented during the awards program.
If you wish to participate in the annual meeting via teleconference, please register at:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2011CFWFAGM
All documentation and instructions for the call will be sent to you via email.
Secondly, the awards banquet will be – exceptionally for this year only – an awards breakfast. It will be held from 8:00 – 9:00 am in the Oakes Grand Ballroom at the Marriott by the Falls Hotel on Saturday, September 17th, 2011. The awards presentation will be preceded by the Senate Report (can we take that stuff so early in the morning?) and followed by a presentation from the Manitoba folks who will be hosting the 2012 CFWF conference.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
2011 CFWF Awards Update
Hello all,
Please note that there was an error in the original entry package. The CFWF Awards Banquet will be taking place this year in Niagara Falls on September 17th, not Moose Jaw on October 1st. Sorry for the confusion and good luck to all who have submitted and will submit entries!
2011 CFWF Awards Extension
Hello all,
In light of the continuation of the Canada Post strike, we are extending the postmarked deadline to June 30. Canada Post workers have not been legislated back to work yet, but they should be at some point this week. I’d like to remind you once again that if you send your entry by courier, please use our street address (3202 Tullochgorum rd.) and not the PO Box.
Thanks for your cooperation.

Get your best stuff together and enter in one of the 14 categories. The more entries and participation, the better the competition!
CFWF Donates to Japan
If you're not already aware, I’m pleased to announce that CFWF Board voted in favour of contributing $500 to Japan relief efforts, as per the attached documents. The money will be used for clothing, meals, other miscellaneous items for rural people (farmers mostly). The IFAJ was held in Japan and some of our Canadian members were very near where the earthquake took place.
As well, as providing much needed support for this cause, this small donation helps to align CFWF with our American and world counterparts, particularly with the IFAJ and CFWF together this fall in Canada. CFWF recently received a generous contribution ($8,000+) from SFWA from the annual conference so we continue to be in good shape financially.
While our past practice and go-forward one will likely remain to decline these types of requests for financial support, however worthy, the Board members agreed that this exception was a good one.
If you have questions or comments, I’m happy to chat.
